Care Packages Make it to Bahrain!

In 2016 we said our goodbyes to one of our favorite Sales Representatives, Maria Montoya. As a Navy reservist, she was up for deployment and has been away since August. Before Christmas UDS donated personal care items to Operation Eagle and put in a request that Miss Montoya’s unit receive some Christmas care packages. She recently updated us on how she's been and with her permission, we want to share some of her thoughts.

Q: How are you doing?
A: I'm good! I miss my dog – I miss him more than anything in the world. Other than that, I'm adapting well. There's something refreshing about "roughing it" out here. The quiet times serve as a time to reflect on the home life and re-evaluate and appreciate some things and people back home. This country is quite nice. It's a bit of a culture shift but nothing too shocking. The people I have encountered so far are very patriotic and the civilians are very loving and supportive of their troops. It feels great to serve my country; active duty has its ups and downs but it's very consistent. Knowing you are mission essential to the mission instills a sense of pride and patriotism. The relationships I've built within my unit are the best part. I can go back saying I've made 160 new brothers and sisters.

Q: What did you think of the Christmas stockings Operation Eagle sent?!
A: The stockings were great! The frog fuels and candy were a hit—some of the guys were even fighting over them! Also, we enjoyed the personal care items. Very handy stuff. The little first aid kits were cool to keep in our backpacks.

Q: How do you spend your free time there?
A: I had a chance to see a few things around town, but now I'm busy taking 3 classes since they are free with tuition assistance. The MWR also brings some entertainment to us. Musicians, Cheerleaders, comedians, even magicians!

Q: Lastly, any message you want us to pass along to your former UDS accounts?
A: Yes! I miss my customers! We used to have such a good time chatting. Now that I do some supply work for SECFOR, I understand how difficult procurement can be and I have great respect for the work they do.

She has promised to send us more pictures from abroad, but in the meantime check out the Operation Eagle facebook page for current photos.

United Drug Supply--Appears on Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing List 2 years in a Row!

NEW YORK, August 18, 2016Inc. magazine today ranked United Drug Supply NO. 1109 on its 35th annual Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment— its independent small businesses. Companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000.

“Supporting the growth of small businesses is critical to our country’s economic health,” says President & CEO Samantha Godfrey. “We couldn’t have done it without our hometown community support from the Council of Entrepreneurial Development NC, Four Oaks Bank, Morrisville Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina Defense Business Association & Wyrick Robbins Law Firm.”

The 2016 Inc. 5000, unveiled online at Inc.com and with the top 500 companies featured in the September issue of Inc. (available on newsstands August 23) is the most competitive crop in the list’s history. The average company on the list achieved a mind-boggling three-year growth of 433%. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $200 billion, and the companies on the list collectively generated 640,000 jobs over the past three years, or about 8% of all jobs created in the entire economy during that period. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/inc5000.

"The Inc. 5000 list stands out where it really counts,” says Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “It honors real achievement by a founder or a team of them. No one makes the Inc. 5000 without building something great – usually from scratch. That’s one of the hardest things to do in business, as every company founder knows. But without it, free enterprise fails.”

The annual Inc. 5000 event honoring all the companies on the list will be held from October 18 through 20, in San Antonio, TX. Speakers include some of the greatest entrepreneurs of this and past generations, such as best-selling author and strategist Tony Robbins, SoulCycle co-founders Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, Cornerstone OnDemand founder, president and CEO Adam Miller, Marvell Technology Group director and co-founder Weili Dai, and New Belgium Brewing co-founder and executive chair Kim Jordan.

UDS Named One of America's Outstanding Navy Reserve Employers for 2016

On March 11th 2016, United Drug Supply was honored by being named one of America’s Outstanding Navy Reserve Employers for 2016.  This distinction is bestowed upon companies, regardless of size or industry, to recognize their contributions to our national defense.  UDS was nominated by Petty Officer3rd Class Maria Montoya.

When asked why she felt the need to nominate UDS, Maria stated “It's something they had brought up during drill weekend, so I filled out a form nominating Samantha and UDS. I thought it would be a good way to show Samantha how much I appreciate her teaching me and pushing me to always improve.” Montoya also notes that Samantha hired her right out of college with only military work experience to offer: “She's really supportive of my military career, she gives me time off, and works around my training whenever it conflicts with my regular work time.”

Upon receiving the award, President & CEO Samantha Godfrey stated “It’s our duty as a business to employ those who have and continue to serve our country. Without these individuals we wouldn’t have the entrepreneurial business environment we do today. We are extremely proud of and inspired by Petty Officer Montoya and look forward to her safe return." Petty Officer Montoya will be deployed to Bahrain in September of this year.

UDS has been invited by the Chief of Navy Reserve, Vice Admiral Robin Braun, to attend the Navy Reserve’s 2016 Navy Employer Recognition Event on June 24thin Norfolk, VA. This event will give us the opportunity to speak with several Reserve Sailors to discuss their roles and responsibilities.

Some other highlights for the day will include:
• Visit Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek
• SEAL TEAM 18 tour
• Visit Navy Expeditionary Combat Command
• Visit Norfolk Naval Station
• U.S. Navy ship tour
• U.S. Naval aircraft displays and tours
• Reception at Naval Station Norfolk’s historic Pennsylvania House, located on Admiral’s Row.

For more information about the nomination, please see here

UDS Supports Employee & Navy Reservist Maria Montoya’s Deployment

If you’ve ever met any of the UDS staff at an event, chances are it was our Maria Montoya.  She brings energy into all of her conversations which is part of what makes her a valuable asset to our team as an Account Manager.  She started in the summer of 2013 in customer service and lead generation and rapidly moved her way up to sales where she excelled.

In addition to her duties here at work she has been a reservist in the U.S. Navy since 2010.  She is currently ranked as Petty Office 3rd Class and is posted as Master at Arms in her unit.  She recently signed up for an additional two years and has been chosen for deployment along with two other members of her unit.

While we are immensely proud of her dedication to her national duties, she will be missed when she leaves in September. She will be stationed in Bahrain for almost a full year with a month long training session in Texas before flying out.  For those unfamiliar with the area, Bahrain is an island in the Persian Gulf.  She is most excited about experiencing a different culture and the fact that it will be a 180 from what she is currently doing.

When asked about what she will miss at UDS her immediate reply was my “work husband” Michael Pickett!  After a short laugh, she went on to include the entire UDS staff and not so subtly hinted that she is expecting a care package from us through Operation Eagle. She has promised to keep us updated and has agreed to let us share her updates with you as well!

Maria we are thankful for your service to the United States!

UDS Attends CED Life Science Conference.

Our team had an amazing time at the CED Life Science Conference this week. Speakers ranged from Bob Hugin speaking on the entrepreneurial spirit, to Jeffrey Pollard on participatory medicine, to Robert Lefkowitz share his experience receiving the Nobel Prize. And while we thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone, we must say that the CED organizers did a fantastic job organizing the panel discussions--our favorite panelist was Cindy Whitehead.  She is one of the Co-Founders and former CEO of Raleigh company Sprout Pharmaceuticals.  The company is most know for their efforts to get the drug Addyi approved by the FDA.

UDS CEO participates in local Chamber of Commerce panel.

Our CEO Samantha Godfrey was in good company last week at the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce KNOW luncheon.  Other panelists included Pat Eder of Divinity Café and Angela Johanningmeier of John Deere. The chamber regularly has events for the local community to network and learn from each other. Together the panelists answered all of the hard-hitting questions, ranging from Emotional Intelligence, to being a woman in the corporate world, and most importantly how to harness a woman's intuition for business success.  One of the quotes that stuck with us was by panelist Billie Redmond, “Self awareness is the beginning of wisdom”.

The Patriot Award recognizes bosses and supervisors who are supportive of National Guard or Reserve duty when they are activated. These awardees are bosses who make accommodations and the necessary arrangements to support Citizen Warriors including flexible schedules, time off during deployment, and granting leaves of absence when needed.

"Organizations like United Drug Supply recognize the extraordinary value Guard and Reserve employees bring to their workplace," said North Carolina ESGR Committee Chair Ron Bogle.  "Hiring them is not just the right thing to do; it is the business-smart thing to do."
